DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) is a set of IETF DNS protocol extensions that help minimize attacks related to DNS address spoofing when resolving domain names. It is aimed at providing DNS clients (the English term resolver) with authentic responses to DNS queries (or authentic information about the fact that data is missing) and ensuring their integrity. This uses public key cryptography. Data availability and confidentiality of requests are not ensured. Securing DNS is critical to Internet security in general.
